Resources for Gay Mennonite Youth

It can be tough to be gay when you’re a teenager. Especially if you are still living at home and not able to your family or friends. It can be even more difficult if you are a Mennonite, because the Mennonite Church usually tells gays and lesbians that they are bad people and can only be good if they stop being gay.

If you are a young gay Mennonite, know that you are not alone! There are hundreds of people just like you. Some go to church, some don’t; some are out to everyone, and some haven’t told anybody yet. And tons more of us were once in your exact place, and we’re living happy, successful lives, both in and out of the church.

There are a lot of individual Mennonite churches who disagree with the main Mennonite Church about how to treat gay and lesbian people. They are members of the Supportive Communities Network (SCN), and you can see who they are by clicking here.

If you have questions about what being gay is all about, we’ve got some links you can check out. We’ve just started this section and will be adding more information and links as time goes on, so keep checking back. And if you have questions or ideas for other resources we can put here, use the Contact Us button to the left and let us know. All your emails and email addresses will be strictly confidential, and we’ll never email you unless you give us permission.
